Magnetic Scotch & Soda by Artisan Coin ( Instant Download )
Scotch & Soda is a classic magic effect that originated in the 1970s and has remained a timeless staple among magicians ever since.
The name is inspired by the cocktail “Scotch & Soda,” where the copper coin symbolizes “Scotch Whisky” and the silver coin represents “Soda.” While the analogy requires a little imagination, it perfectly reflects how this effect, much like a fine aged whisky, is something that deserved to be savored.

Powerful Self-Working Effect
Scotch & Soda has stood the test of time mainly because of its self-working nature.
In the classic routine featured in the promotional trailer video, the magician merely hands the coins to the spectator, who then handles everything themselves, including the moment when the magic occurs.
This means the miracle happens literally in the spectator’s hands.
If you search for “Scotch & Soda” on The Magic Café forums, there is a post titled “How strong is the Scotch & Soda in real-world performances?” The responses are unanimous—it’s a really strong effect!

Versatile Routines
While the classic routine is impressive on its own, the real strength of the Scotch & Soda lies in its versatility.
A quick online search will reveal countless variations and uses for this set. The Magic Cafe also hosts numerous suggestions and plots for routines featuring the Scotch & Soda, such as Houdini escape routines and routines using flash paper.
You’ll also find at least sixty different routines in magic literature, from Bobo’s Modern Coin Magic to Ken Simmons’ lecture notes and Houdini Magic’s booklets.

Magnetic Version – Supercharging the Classic
Although the Scotch & Soda has been somewhat overshadowed by newer coin gimmicks over the years, its charm is still appreciated by veteran coin magicians.
Therefore, we wanted to bring attention back to the Scotch & Soda with an added modern twist by introducing the Artisan Coin Magnetic Scotch & Soda, designed with insights from Jay Wang’s years of experience.

Compared to the traditional non-magnetic version, the magnetic version offers several significant advantages:
Instant Reset (0.5s) Without the Need for a Copper ‘Bang’ Ring
In the original Scotch & Soda, the coins were manually locked, and resetting required a copper ‘Bang’ Ring to force the coins apart, making repeated performances more challenging. The magnetic locking mechanism allows for a quick without additional tools.
Automatic Locking
In the original version, the magician had to manually press the coins together to lock them. With the magnetic version, this happens automatically in the spectator’s hand, making the effect even cleaner and easier to perform.
Includes Matching Penny for Added Versatility
The AC Magnetic Scotch & Soda includes a shaved penny that matches the size of the coin shell, allowing for new routine possibilities. Combined with the automatic locking feature, this version offers more flexibility than the original version.

From a craftsmanship standpoint, we’ve focused on maintaining a smooth locking mechanism while achieving a high level of closure between the coin and shell. Once locked, the gimmick is almost indistinguishable from a real coin and will pass most casual inspections (unless the audience participant specifically knows what to look for).
Additionally, the included online tutorial teaches three practical routines from Jay Wang, along with some quick effects to ensure you’re always prepared for any performance situation.
At Artisan Coin, we believe that each product should be more than just a beautiful piece of craftsmanship—it should also be a secret weapon you can carry with you every day.

Summary:
- A classic coin effect, now with a magnetic upgrade.
- Precision-crafted gaff coin, indistinguishable from real coins.
- Includes a shaved penny for added versatility.
- Comes with three full routines and additional effects in the tutorial.
